Fruits contain a lot of sugar, water and vitamins. They are also rich in antioxidants, which means that they can prevent many diseases (such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, Alzheimer disease) and ensure a longer life. Fruits are low in calories so they are helpful during a weight-loss diet.
It is good to eat about three portions of fruits daily. Thay can be consumed in any form, even liquid. Freshly squeezed juices taste great and are a real boost of energy. Jams and marmalade are good for winter. Some varieties of fruits are available all year round (apples, bananas, oranges), others are limited to the particular season and place. Among typical summer fruits in Poland are: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries and plums. Autumn brings grapes, apples and pears. Winter is a season of imported exotic fruits: tangerines, kiwis and pineapples. In spring we try some first fruits and look forward to summer with its delicacies.
