Events and holidays
There are many important holidays in Poland. Some of them are just public holidays, while others have a religious meaning. I would like to describe the New Year's Eve, as it has a special significance for all people no matter what their religion or political beliefs are.
New Year's Eve is the last day of the year, December 31st. It is preceded by Christmas, so the Christmas accents are still visible. One may also feel the Christmas spirit blowing in the air. New Year's Eve is an important day celebrated with friends and family during numerous festivities. Traditionally, balls, parties and oper-air concerts are held all over the country. Some people decide to spend this night far away from home and they go to exotic places or popular winter destinations.
No matter where they are, the scenario is usually similar. When the clock strikes midnight people toast with champagne, wish each other a happy new year and keep on celebrating. The midnight is also accompanied by colorful fireworks displays.
