'What did you do?', she asked. - She asked me what I had done. (porada)

say (mówić, powiedzieć) – said (nie wymaga dopiełnienia)

'I won't go to the meeting,' she said. - She said that she wouldn't go to the meeting.
'Come at 5 o'clock,' they said. - They said to come at 5 o'clock

tell (powiedzieć) – told (wymaga dopełnienia)

'I will be there', you told me. - You told me that you would be there.
'We are tired,' they told me. - They told me that they were tired.

advise (radzić) – advised

'Take an umbrella,' he advised me. - He advised me to take an umbrella.

suggest (sugerować) – suggested

'You ought to see a doctor', she suggested. - She suggested that I see a doctor.

Present simple

'He studies journalism,' she said. -> She said (that) he studied journalism.
